Alice Searches for Her Keyby ~klmarsala

As I so often do when I am working on a conceptual piece, illustration, painting, writing and yes even photography I end up creating art from within a recognition of something dwelling inside. This piece is almost done- Ive a few details I am working on but wanted to share what has been accomplished thus far.

I have drawn Alice standing with her friends peering into her keyhole which is larger than herself. As Alice is surrounded by The White Rabbit sitting and gazing himself in the MaddHatters Hat, the 5 of Hearts card who is hiding the paint brush behind the hat and has placed the painted rose aside to the floor, The White Rabbits watch- which has stopped percisely at 5:05, the Cheshire Cat who has wrapped his tail curiously around Alices legs (as in wanting to prevent her from moving forward and making a decision) all at the brink of Alices Keyhole... where 5 keys (a detail I need to still place in. The five keys will be of different perspectives) dangle from a twisted tree and a path that leads to a place Alice needs and wants.

What is the signficance of the number 5 I have yet to work out. What did come out of the work that has been in my mind nigh on a year now is this: We each stand at our own threshold... waiting. Why? Why do wait? Is it timing? Is it someone holding us back? Is it embarassement? Is it guilt? Is it fear of not being liked and thought mad?

Alice dear, you give good advice but you seldom listen to it...

Youre at your threshhold of existence. You know the age of the tree, which holds five keys to your destiny, has already begun to whither? Do you see Alice that the tree has grown even beyond its boundaries of the keyhole?

Alice- the Cheshire cat... is he friend or foe? Is The White Rabbit hiding? Is the watch running out of time?

Alice dear- you're looking through a time portal. Go on... grab hold of the key sweet one in your front left breast pocket. You dont need to wait any longer to unlock the keyhole honey. Close your eyes and see the number four key? Its the one... right there Alice... in your pocket.

Take it out, use it to open your world, those who love you will walk with you through the opening... those who desire to hold you down will let go as you give your leg a final shake.

Alice go... the clock wont hold forever...

i love this so much. im gonna favourite it. when i first saw it and i saw the title i thought, ooh this will be interesting ive always like alice in wonderland, but i wasnt expecting it to be so... mindboggling. the writing you've put with it makes me think, and i agree with you.
so anyways, about the actual picture. apart from the fact you draw amazingly, and the idea of the drawing is inspired, i love the colours and textures. they look like you've burnt the lines into the paper. i love the small details too. if i were to draw alice, i never would do anything like the small watch or the hearts on the crad. but now i would.

and you say you havent finished? i cant wait for the finished product then.

Hey Kel,

I am finally on a bit of a break. We have an intersession for 2 1/2 weeks. I will go into work and pick up odd jobs here and there as we cannot make it without doing so. However it will allow me time on dA a bit more right now. They blocked dA at work so I cannot log on anylonger there... nazis... urgh. LOL!

The piece is about 16x24. When I do complete it Ive decided I am going to frame it for hanging. I had thought a long time abou this piece and how I wanted to do her- then last Sat. I just sat down and did it. I havent been able to work on her as much as Id like- but hey do we artists ever get the time we really want?

David finished building my two tier garden in the back so I am hoping to get a fall garden in. I did plant herbs last weekend too. Cant believe its almost Oct... my bday month! woohoo! LOL! I do love this month for Halloween especially. Do ya'll go tricker treating? Have the kids chosen costumes yet? Livvy wants to be a skeleton... but she cant find the right thing- so she suggested being little red riding hood and having one of her brothers dress up as the big bad wolf! I thought that clever.
